Vertical Load Carrying SystemConcrete slabs over metal decks supported by steel beams and columns.
Lateral Force Resisting SystemChevron braced steel frames with unbonded braces (steel buckling-restrained braced frames)on perimeter and central core, concrete sheer walls below grade.
Foundation TypeBraced frames and gravity columns are supported by CIDH piles. The piles vary in length from 12 to 60 feet.
RemarksThe building was designed in accordance with the 1995 California Building Code. It is the first hospital building in California to use steel BRBF as the lateral force resisting system. Funding for instrumentation was provided by the owner as required by OSHPD. CSMIP provided assistance in instrumentation.
