Instrumentation1990. 16 accelerometers, on 4 levels in the building. 3 accelerometers at a reference free-field site.
 
Vertical Load Carrying System1.5" x 18 gage steel vented roof decking and 3"x20 gage steel decking with concrete fill (3"-4") at 1st and 2nd floors, supported by steel beams and columns, and natural rubber bearings.
Lateral Force Resisting SystemPerimeter braced (Chevron) steel frame supported by laminated steel and rubber isolator bearings under all 32 columns. The isolators have an ultimate restraint system at the core to control the uplift and horizontal displacement of the bearings.
Foundation TypeConcrete spread footings founded on bedrock.
RemarksSeismic design criteria was based on the 1984 Los Angeles County building code and a site-specific design criteria, whichever governed. With the base isolation the bldg. Period was shifted from about 0.2 sec as a fixed base structure to about 2 sec as an isolated structure.
