Vertical Load Carrying System | 9" post-tensioned concrete slabs supported by concrete beams, walls and columns from the Second Floor to the Roof, and 10" concrete slab supported by concrete walls and columns at the Ground Floor. The floor slabs contain lighting conduit and tubing for the heating and cooling system in addition to the prestressed and mild reinforcement. |
Lateral Force Resisting System | In the transverse direction, two centrally located C-shaped concrete core walls (post-tensioned) and two post-tensioned concrete moment frames located near the east and west ends of the building. In the longitudinal direction the core walls resist the entire seismic load. The lateral force of the underground basement is resisted by the concrete core walls and perimeter concrete walls. |
Foundation Type | 2' thick concrete mat. |
Remarks | Structural design was based on the 2001 California Building Code. Nonlinear time history analyses were performed to verify and refine the design of the structural system. |
